Speedmaster

The Speedmaster, developed by GRW, is a rotational-speed sensor that is especially constructed for the contactless measurement of very fast rotating devices as found in various fields of the dental industry. However, it is just as useful in other areas involving such measurements, such as motors or high frequency spools.

Measuring Principle

The included permanent magnet is used to magnetize a probe or motor shaft. The sensor is placed from 1 to 10 mm in front of the magnetized object. As it rotates, the weak magnetic field of the magnetized source is detected by the special sensor developed by GRW, amplified, and displayed as RPM. The sensitivity of the sensor depends on the rotation speed of the source device. This means that at low rotational speeds (the minimum is 20,000 RPM), the sensor must be positioned very close (about 1 mm) to the source. A good, strong signal is achieved at rotational speeds over 300,000 RPM, where the sensor can be placed as far as 10 mm from the magnetized source. The Speedmaster overcomes the main disadvantages of optically based measuring systems, which are prone to contamination and require extremely precise positioning with small shafts. This instrument has proven itself especially suited for use in the development, production, and repair of the turbines and angled handpieces used in the dental industry.

The GRW-Speedmaster is delivered in a plastic carrying-case, and includes the following:

• base measuring instrument
• power supply
• rotational-speed sensor
• permanent magnet
• hardened metal probe Ø 1.6 mm to clamp onto dental instruments and
• tripod for holding the rotational-speed sensor

The instrument is housed in a solid aluminium case with the display on the front, and connectors on the back.

We give a total of 2 years warranty on this instrument.

The sales price of the unit is € 1,100.00 plus local VAT (presently 19%). Additionally we charge € 10.00 for packaging and transportation within the EU (please contact us directly for rates outside the EU). For an extra fee of € 150.00 you can purchase a special unit for laboratories, where the measuring signal can be taken from a connector on the back of the instrument and which can be used for further processing, e. g. an SPS. We will happily provide you with an individual offer. If more than ten units are required we will allow a discount. We grant a return of the instrument within 14 days on your first order. During this period you may check the system in detail with your own application.
